22 January 2012

This week we're VERY excited to be joined by the lovely Karin from the shoe heaven that is Zalando UK. Karin is a passionate fashionista, almost fanatic vintage hunter and a huge HBO-fan. On a daily basis she works for the Affiliate team at online fashion- and shoe giant Zalando UK. Fashion is not only a huge part of her professional life but also takes up most of her spare time! (we like Karin)

I personally love those first weeks of the year when everything feels fresh and new! A new year also means new trends to wade through and shopping decisions to make. Indulging in the shoe models arriving daily is a great pleasure but it is easy to lose the overview. Over at Zalando UK we love shoes and this week I will introduce you to some of the most important shoe trends for spring 2012 and how to wear them.

Metallic shoes
Invested in gold shoes for this year’s New Year’s party? Congratulations, this spring, metallic shoes are bang on-trend! A metallic shade is a perfect complement to the oh-so-popular all-white outfit! If you decide to jump on the trend with strong bold colours you will find that a pair of metallic shoes very helpful. Whereas black shoes look plump paired with a bright colourful outfit, soft gold or silver hue complement bold colours perfectly - but be careful not to add too many accessories to stay elegant.

Pointy toe
After having been tucked away for what in fashion feels like an eternity, pointy toes slowly make their way back into trend! A pointed court shoe with a heel is very flattering for your posture and paired with skinny jeans will elongate your legs. Choose a sling back model for a feminine day look and black patent for cocktail hour. Needless to say, probably the best shoe-investment you can do this spring.

Loafers & boat shoes
It is hard to remember a summer when the marine trend wasn’t present! I can’t think of any good reason why not though: a boat shoe is the perfect love child between sporty and chic. Truth is, most of us don’t lead a life in which heels are suitable on a day-to-day basis which is why the boat shoe is an even more welcome trend! Keep it simple with jeans and a white knit sweater for a fresh spring look.

Platforms & flatforms
Since most trends are recycled, we all knew it was going to happen- the 90s are back- and with them the platforms! This spring’s addition is the so-called “flatform”. Not necessarily the most flattering shoe since they tend to make your legs look a bit stumpy, nonetheless a great way to add some height without wearing high-heels! Go for a subtle platform and match with ankle short trousers and white blouse for an effortless 50s chic look!
